KFI REPLACEMENT TOWER #2 8/14/2008

KFI REPLACEMENT TOWER CONSTRUCTION COMPLETED
August 14, 2008

Erected in 13 days, the tower that took almost 4 years rebuild finally stands tall in La Mirada, CA. I arrived on 8/14 as the Seacomm crew was pulling out for the last time. It is a big, broad tower with a 50-foot capacitive hat for top loading and is lit on two levels with High Intensity Strobe Lighting. You can't miss it driving down the 5 freeway or across the 91 freeway near Beach Blvd. It is worth seeing the scale, the top hat and the raised northeast anchor, which is MUCH beefier than the original, as you see below. We're glad to see this old friend return and I attended the ceremony where it returned to being fed 50,000 watts of RF on August 12, 2008. The tower is 675' tall and the Top Hat is 50' across, flat side to flat side. Very sadly, KFI Chief Engineer John Paoli, who expertly shepherded this project through, passed away just weeks after it went on the air. I will always miss John's friendship, his wry sense of humor and his use of the word scamper. The tower has been named in his honor and has a plaque to that effect.
